In April, the Ukrainian automotive market showed resilience despite wartime challenges. According to the data from Ukrautoprom, Ukrainian citizens registered 19,600 used passenger cars imported from abroad. While this figure is 5% lower compared to the same period last year, it highlights a sustained demand for personal mobility during these testing times.

The structure of imported vehicles remains consistent with recent trends. Gasoline-powered models dominate the market with a 57% share, followed by diesel vehicles (20%). Interestingly, electric vehicles have maintained a steady 12% share, reflecting an ongoing shift toward sustainable transportation despite the energy sector’s challenges. Hybrids and LPG-equipped cars account for 8% and 3%, respectively. The average age of the imported fleet stands at 9.6 years, indicating that Ukrainian buyers are prioritizing value and reliability in their purchasing decisions.

The list of top-10 models shows a clear preference for European and Japanese manufacturers. Volkswagen continues to be a favorite among Ukrainians, with the VW Golf (904 units) and VW Tiguan (815 units) taking the lead. Other popular models included the Audi Q5, Nissan Rogue, Skoda Octavia, and Renault Megane, all of which remain staples on Ukrainian roads due to their proven performance and service availability. The presence of versatile crossovers like the Ford Escape and Nissan Qashqai in the top rankings further emphasizes the need for practical, robust vehicles capable of handling diverse road conditions.

From a journalistic perspective, these statistics serve as an indicator of public sentiment and economic adaptability. Even while the nation focuses heavily on its defense and security, the domestic market continues to function, with private citizens investing in transportation to sustain their daily operations. The import of used cars acts as a vital mechanism, allowing households to replace aging vehicles and businesses to maintain their logistics networks. Looking ahead, the market will likely continue to favor fuel-efficient and mid-aged models as buyers look for cost-effective solutions in an unpredictable economic environment. This trend underscores the enduring importance of a functional automotive sector in supporting Ukraine’s socio-economic stability.
