Built for the Wild: Mitsubishi Unveils the Extreme 2026 Triton Raider Off-Road Pickup

Mitsubishi Motors has officially unveiled a highly capable, off-road-focused iteration of its renowned L200 pickup, marketed as the Triton in Australia. Dubbed the Raider, this new variant stands as the most rugged and trail-ready modification in the brand’s 2026 model year lineup, reports the automotive outlet CarExpert.

Developed in close collaboration with the acclaimed Australian engineering firm Premcar, the Triton Raider is strategically positioned to fiercely compete in the factory-tuned off-road segment, taking on heavyweights like the Ford Ranger Tremor and the Nissan Navara Warrior. While the vehicle is built upon the foundation of the premium dual-cab GSR trim, it features extensive mechanical upgrades designed for ultimate endurance.

Premcar engineers meticulously overhauled the pickup’s suspension and steering systems to ensure unparalleled stability and durability across diverse terrains. The front suspension now boasts taller, re-rated springs that strike a perfect balance between on-road ride comfort and extreme off-road capability. Crucially, the shock absorbers have been upgraded with larger pistons and an increased oil volume. This enhancement allows the suspension to perform optimally under heavy loads and prevents fluid overheating during prolonged off-road excursions or heavy towing.

The modifications also yield a significantly improved stance. The Triton Raider gains an extra 25 mm of ground clearance at the front and 15 mm at the rear. The vehicle rolls on exclusive 18-inch ROH alloy wheels featuring a unique offset that widens the overall track by 20 mm. These wheels are wrapped in aggressive Bridgestone Dueler A/T 002 tires, specifically selected after rigorous performance testing.

Visually, the Raider distinguishes itself with an exclusive Brushed Bronze exterior finish, distinctive badging, dark decorative accents, and a robust heavy-duty sump guard protecting the engine’s underside. Inside the cabin, the enhancements remain subtle yet premium, featuring custom Raider branding embroidered on the headrests and inscribed on the center console.

The powertrain remains functionally intact, relying on the robust 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine that delivers 204 horsepower and 470 Nm of torque. This power is managed by a smooth six-speed automatic transmission paired with Mitsubishi’s advanced four-wheel-drive system. Despite the heavy off-road focus, the Raider retains its impressive 3,500 kg towing capacity and standard payload limits.

Mitsubishi representatives note that the Triton Raider is crafted as a premium, emotionally driven offering for the high-end pickup market. While official pricing remains under wraps, it is projected to sit well above the standard GSR, likely surpassing the $70,000 mark. Initial customer deliveries are slated to commence in May 2026.
