Betting on Escalation: Why the Kremlin Ignores Diplomacy and Prepares for New Mobilization

Despite numerous statements by international observers regarding a possible end to active hostilities, the Kremlin’s true intentions remain aggressively unchanged. As reported by Reuters, Vladimir Putin is not interested in a constructive dialogue and is preparing for a new surge in the conflict, with the final seizure of the Donbas as its primary goal. While Kyiv and its allies are building a strategy to force Moscow into real, non-ultimatum negotiations, the situation on the front requires urgent action.

Strategy of Exhaustion and New Threats

Sources close to the Kremlin indicate that the Russian dictator maintains a completely uncompromising position. For him, establishing control over the entire Donbas is an absolute priority. Any peace initiatives coming from Moscow are merely tactical maneuvers. Furthermore, the Kremlin is reportedly ready for extreme internal political measures, including a new wave of mobilization, to compensate for colossal losses and breach Ukrainian defensive lines.

While the occupiers attempt to exert pressure on the front, Ukraine is systematically destroying their resource base. Strategic strikes on Russian oil refineries continue to degrade their export potential, significantly complicating enemy logistics and operational sustainability.

Diplomatic Dimensions

Serhiy Kyslytsya, First Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, noted that negotiations with the Russian Federation have undergone a significant evolution. While early meetings focused primarily on exchanging positions, the current format has shifted toward formal trilateral discussions. High-level meetings, including those between the presidents of Ukraine and the United States in Ankara, have yielded tangible progress, specifically regarding the procurement of advanced air defense systems like the Patriot.

The Critical Two-Month Window

Czech President Petr Pavel has highlighted a critical timeframe: Ukraine and the Western coalition have approximately two months to prepare for the predicted escalation. This window must be utilized to maximize the delivery of ammunition and air defense systems. The current strategy pursued by Kyiv is one of forcing peace through strength. Since diplomatic appeals have failed to deter Putin, the destruction of military infrastructure has become the primary instrument of Ukrainian diplomacy.

The ultimate success of this strategy depends on whether Western allies can provide the necessary resources to repel the next wave of Russian aggression before the Kremlin attempts to present the world with a new fait accompli of military dominance.
