During his visit to Yerevan for the European Political Community summit, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a series of strategic negotiations aimed at refocusing international attention on Ukraine and securing new defense commitments. As reported by Ukrinform, a key outcome of the summit was the agreement on upcoming aid packages and the acceleration of funding for Ukraine’s domestic drone and electronic warfare (EW) production.
According to the President, the summit provided a crucial venue to engage with the “Washington Group”—a coalition of nations maintaining active dialogue with the U.S. administration. Zelenskyy acknowledged that while the global spotlight has partially shifted toward the Middle East, restoring Ukraine’s place at the top of the international political agenda remains a vital necessity. “Today, political attention to Ukraine has been restored,” he stated.
A tangible result of these meetings was the announcement by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney of a $200 million aid package. Zelenskyy highlighted that individual commitments from partners often trigger a positive chain reaction, encouraging broader collective support. He emphasized that such financial contributions are instrumental in maintaining essential systems, including Patriot missile defenses.
Furthermore, discussions touched upon the upcoming 90-billion-euro loan from the European Union. Ukraine is advocating for the first tranche to be disbursed by June, specifically targeting the expansion of local defense manufacturing. This capital infusion is intended to ramp up the production of unmanned aerial vehicles and advanced electronic warfare systems, which have become decisive factors on the battlefield. By integrating these needs into the broader security framework of international partners, Ukraine aims to stabilize its military infrastructure and reduce dependence on external military hardware in the long run.
