The Russian Federation has updated its military plans and continues to adapt its war strategy in response to the shifting realities on the battlefield. In turn, Ukraine is rapidly preparing comprehensive and asymmetric actions to counter these emerging threats. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced this strategic shift in his official Telegram channel on Tuesday, April 21.
According to the President, the situation on the frontline remains highly complex but controlled, requiring constant tactical adjustments. Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi and Chief of the General Staff Andriy Hnatov delivered comprehensive reports regarding the frontline dynamics and exactly how the enemy army is currently shifting its offensive priorities.
“We are analyzing the updated Russian war plans in detail. The command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine clearly understands what exactly the enemy is planning and what priorities have been set for the Russian army by the political leadership of Russia. We will counter it,” Zelensky stated. This statement underscores Ukraine’s deep intelligence capabilities and unwavering readiness to implement preemptive measures.
Analyzing the reasons behind the enemy’s renewed vigor, the President noted with regret that a noticeable decrease in sanctions and political pressure from international partners on the aggressor state has had direct negative consequences. This hesitation on the global stage has manifested in a partial growth of Russian military ambitions. However, Kyiv is not waiting passively for Western consensus to act.
“But our long-range sanctions, the increased use of drones on the frontline, and the active operations of our units will provide the necessary answers to the occupier. Today, I approved the list of our next operations,” the Head of State emphasized.
By “long-range sanctions,” Ukraine refers to its highly successful and systematic strike campaign against critical Russian infrastructure deep behind enemy lines. The effectiveness of this kinetic doctrine is evident. In the Russian city of Tuapse, a massive fire has been raging at an oil refinery for the fifth consecutive day following devastating drone attacks on the plant and local port infrastructure on April 16 and 20. Furthermore, railway facilities near a military base in the Rostov region were recently targeted, severely complicating Russian military logistics and troop deployments to the Ukrainian front.
Concluding the meeting with the top military command, Zelensky highlighted the most effective combat units and thanked them for their dedication. “Thank you for every result. We have also determined the priority needs for supplying the front, which must be implemented immediately,” he summarized. Ukraine’s updated strategy relies heavily on crippling Russian logistics and maintaining relentless, multifaceted pressure on both the battlefield and the enemy’s rear echelon.
