In March 2026, Ukrainian agrarian businesses achieved a historic milestone, exporting the highest volume of chicken eggs seen in the past five years. According to official data published by the Union of Poultry Breeders of Ukraine, which cites State Customs Service statistics, domestic producers delivered 216.2 million eggs to foreign markets in a single month. This achievement highlights the remarkable resilience of Ukraine’s agricultural sector, which continues to operate and expand despite ongoing hostilities and logistical hurdles.
The financial results of the first quarter demonstrate a rapid positive dynamic. Compared to February 2026, export volumes grew by 23%, and in a year-over-year comparison with March 2025, they increased by 25%. The surge in monetary terms was particularly impressive: revenue in March jumped by 57%, reaching $24 million. Overall, in the first quarter of 2026, Ukraine exported 579.5 million eggs, generating $66 million in total revenue. Notably, while physical export volumes grew by 17%, foreign currency earnings skyrocketed by an unprecedented 74% compared to the same period last year. Market analysts attribute this substantial gap to highly favorable price conditions and supply-demand dynamics currently prevailing in European markets.
The European Union firmly remains the primary consumer of Ukrainian poultry products, accounting for 74% of total export shipments. Between January and March 2026, the largest volumes were directed to Spain (26.1%), the United Kingdom (13.1%), Poland (11.7%), and Israel (8.3%). Spain’s high demand is largely driven by local food inflation, with Ukrainian imports helping to stabilize prices for basic consumer goods. Meanwhile, the steady growth in exports to the UK is supported by the extension of a trade liberalization agreement, which guarantees zero tariffs on Ukrainian eggs and poultry meat until March 2028.
In addition to solidifying its presence in Europe, Ukraine is actively diversifying its export geography. Through the coordinated efforts of the State Service on Food Safety and Consumer Protection and diplomats, Ukraine successfully opened 17 new international markets for various agricultural products in 2025 alone, exceeding the government’s initial targets. As a result, Ukrainian egg producers now have certified access to markets in Canada and Albania, while egg-derived products are being successfully shipped to Malaysia and the Middle East.
Despite these triumphant export figures, maintaining a stable domestic market requires careful balancing. The Anti-Monopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU) has previously issued formal warnings to major egg producers, cautioning them against creating artificial shortages or unjustifiably raising prices in local supermarkets—especially during peak demand periods like the Easter holidays. Because poultry farming is heavily export-oriented, regulators are closely monitoring the market to ensure that the pursuit of lucrative foreign contracts does not lead to inflated costs for the basic consumer basket within Ukraine.
