Ukrainian Ombudsman Appeals to UN and Red Cross Over Execution of POWs and Attack on Evacuation Group

The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, is preparing an urgent official appeal to the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The move comes in response to egregious new war crimes committed by Russian occupation forces, who continue to blatantly violate international humanitarian law, the Geneva Conventions, and their own declared “ceasefire.” Lubinets officially announced this decision via his social media channels, condemning the continuous atrocities.

According to information published by the OSINT analytical project DeepState, Russian military units deliberately targeted and destroyed a Ukrainian evacuation group near the settlement of Hulyaipilske in the Zaporizhzhia region. This ruthless attack occurred despite a publicly declared “ceasefire” by the occupying forces, providing further evidence that any diplomatic or humanitarian promises made by the aggressor state cannot be trusted.

In another horrifying incident that took place in the Kharkiv region, Russian forces cold-bloodedly executed Ukrainian prisoners of war. Based on data retrieved from open sources, enemy troops were conducting a massive assault on Ukrainian defensive positions. During the fierce combat, four Ukrainian defenders were captured. However, instead of adhering to the foundational rules regarding the treatment of prisoners of war guaranteed by international law, the Russian soldiers summarily executed the unarmed Ukrainians.

Dmytro Lubinets strongly emphasized that such actions represent a severe, cynical, and undisguised violation of the Geneva Conventions. “I am immediately sending letters to the ICRC and the UN regarding these horrific crimes. The entire civilized world must clearly understand that Russia systematically destroys all possible rules of war and has turned blatant terror into its primary tactic,” the Ombudsman stressed.

To fully grasp the scale of the ongoing tragedy, it is crucial to note that Ukrainian law enforcement agencies and international experts have already documented nearly 227,000 crimes of aggression and war crimes committed by the Russian Federation since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

The timing of these events adds a layer of profound cynicism, as they occurred during the Easter holidays. On a day when the global community reflects on mercy, humanity, and the sanctity of life, Russia once again demonstrated its complete contempt for these universal values. “Where there was supposed to be a ceasefire, there are gunshots. Where there was supposed to be life, Russians bring death. There must be inevitable accountability for every single crime!” Lubinets stated.

Furthermore, reports from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine indicate the sheer hypocrisy of the enemy’s promises: within a mere six-hour window, Russian forces violated their own so-called “regime of silence” a staggering 469 times. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also highlighted this false truce and the harsh reality of the battlefield in his evening video address, urging the international community to recognize the true nature of the aggressor.
