The Committee for the Oleksandr Dovzhenko State Prize of Ukraine has officially released the shortlist of nominees for the prestigious 2026 award, as reported by the State Agency for Cinema of Ukraine. Despite the ongoing challenges of the war, the Ukrainian film industry continues to produce high-quality artistic works that gain both domestic and international acclaim.
The list of contenders includes both documentary and feature films that highlight unique aspects of Ukrainian history and identity. Among the nominees is director Taras Tomenko for his documentary “Sentimental Journey to the Parajanov Planet.” Another significant nomination is the creative team behind the biographical drama “Malevich,” including Anna Palenchuk, Daria Onyshchenko, Tetiana Filevska, Maria Kael, and Vitalii Azhnov. These projects underscore the importance of preserving and promoting cultural heritage during times of conflict.
The competition also features director Oleksandr Zhovna for the feature film “Sashenka,” as well as the team behind the documentary “Songs of a Slowly Burning Earth,” which includes Olha Zhurba, Volodymyr Usyk, Viacheslav Tsvietkov, Mykhailo Liubarskyi, and Yaroslav Tatarchenko. Other notable nominees are director Yurii Dunai and screenwriter Solomiia Tomashchuk for the film “The Weary,” as well as the crew of the documentary “Flowers of Ukraine,” consisting of Adelina Borets, Hlib Lukianets, and Nataliia Grzegozek.
