Members of the UN Security Council must immediately introduce a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Ukraine. This was stated by Deputy Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN, Volodymyr Pavlichenko, during a Security Council meeting, as reported by Ukrinform.
Pavlichenko emphasized that the ongoing paralysis of the UN Security Council regarding Russia’s crimes must be broken by the international community, which still upholds the rules-based international order. “We are calling on Security Council members once again to immediately introduce a draft resolution for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire,” he said. According to the diplomat, this step would clearly demonstrate support for a comprehensive, fair, and lasting peace in Ukraine rather than a temporary freeze that benefits the aggressor.
During his address, the Ukrainian representative stressed that providing military support to Ukraine is not an escalation of the conflict. “This is not an escalation, but the only effective strategy for restoring peace and saving lives,” Pavlichenko emphasized. He reiterated that Russia’s aggression, characterized by constant ballistic missile attacks, requires a unified international response and strengthened air defense capabilities.
The appeal comes as Ukraine faces a surge in attacks targeting critical infrastructure and residential areas, leading to significant civilian casualties. The international community has documented a steady rise in victims, reinforcing Ukraine’s demand for global bodies to hold Russia accountable.
