The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has successfully completed another phase of its efforts to neutralize internal information threats. As reported on the official SBU Telegram channel on June 30, three pro-Russian agitators have received prison sentences for justifying the Kremlin’s armed aggression and inciting inter-ethnic hatred. These legal actions highlight the critical role of maintaining information security during wartime, as digital propaganda is treated with the same severity as physical sabotage.
In the Chernihiv region, a military deserter was sentenced to six years in prison. Following his unauthorized departure from his unit, he engaged in anti-Ukrainian live streams on TikTok and spread inflammatory content regarding religious issues on Facebook. Such actions serve to demoralize the public, contrasting sharply with the national effort to stabilize defense capabilities. Another recidivist, who had been previously convicted for challenging Ukraine’s territorial integrity, was sentenced to 11 years after establishing an online community of 19,000 members dedicated to glorifying Russian war crimes.
Furthermore, in the Vinnytsia region, a local singer received a 5-year prison sentence for distributing content via YouTube aimed at discrediting the Ukrainian resistance. The investigation proved that the individual attempted to promote separatist ideals, justifying the shelling of Ukrainian cities. These offenders were charged under several articles of the Criminal Code, including state treason, incitement to national or religious hatred, and war propaganda.
The judiciary’s consistent approach demonstrates that there is no safe harbor for those actively working to undermine the Ukrainian state from within. By dismantling these networks, the SBU not only mitigates the immediate threat of misinformation but also sends a clear signal to other potential agitators that their actions will be tracked and prosecuted. As the nation remains steadfast in its defense, the protection of the information ecosystem remains a top priority to ensure public unity and national security.
