Ukraine lifts travel warnings for Hungary after elections

Україна знімає рекомендації проти поїздок до Угорщини після виборів

Kyiv’s foreign ministry drops its advisory and signals readiness to normalise bilateral relations with the new Hungarian government

Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has lifted its recommendation that citizens avoid travelling to Hungary. The decision follows the conclusion of Hungary’s election campaign, which, according to Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, was rife with manipulative narratives targeting Ukraine.

“We expect that the election results will lead to a normalisation of relations — not only on the consular level but in the political dimension as well. Ukraine is ready to work towards that goal.” — Andrii Sybiha, Ukrainian MFA

Sybiha said the election outcome reflected Hungarians’ desire to live in peace, security and prosperity as part of a united and free Europe — rather than within Moscow’s sphere of influence. He described the result as a defeat for anti-Ukrainian propaganda and a politics of blackmail, adding that it would send a signal to other European parties pushing similar rhetoric.

At the same time, the minister urged Ukrainians to maintain realistic expectations. He called for “patient, pragmatic and calm” work to find common ground, rebuild mutual respect, and advance shared interests — for the benefit of both nations and Europe as a whole.
