The Belgian Ministry of Defense has announced a strategic commitment to supply Ukraine with its entire fleet of 53 F-16 fighter jets by 2029, according to a report by Le Soir. The delivery schedule is strictly tied to the phase-in of Belgium’s new F-35 aircraft. Under the revised plan, seven jets are slated for delivery in 2026, followed by five in 2027, fourteen in 2028, and a final batch of twenty-seven in 2029. This phased approach is designed to ensure that the Belgian Air Force maintains its operational capabilities while transitioning to next-generation hardware.
Currently, four of the seven aircraft allocated for 2026 are already being utilized for the intensive training of Ukrainian technical personnel. This early integration is a critical step in preparing the ground for the full operational deployment of the fleet. Belgian defense officials noted that the timeline is indicative and subject to adjustment based on the delivery speed of the new F-35s and the evolving requirements of the Belgian Air Force.
This commitment builds upon a security agreement signed two years ago between Brussels and Kyiv.
