President Volodymyr Zelensky paid a working visit to the Odesa region, as reported on his official Telegram channel. The primary focus of the visit was a coordination meeting with the command of the Ukrainian Navy to address the security situation in the southern region amidst persistent Russian aggression.
During the meeting, the President emphasized the necessity of strengthening air defense systems to counter constant Russian drone and missile strikes. Zelensky noted that the focus is on the readiness to withstand threats at sea, improving communication systems, and enhancing mine protection for coastal waters. The Ukrainian Navy command showcased its current strike capabilities, including ‘Neptune’ and ‘Harpoon’ missile systems, as well as advanced maritime drones.
The discussion also touched upon the urgent need to expand the helicopter fleet to boost the regional air defense’s ability to intercept Iranian-designed suicide drones. Protecting critical infrastructure and civilian logistics corridors in the Black Sea remains a priority, especially after recent Russian attacks on agricultural facilities and civilian merchant vessels traveling through the humanitarian grain corridor.
The President highlighted that the security of the Black Sea is essential not only for Ukraine’s defense but also for global food security. Despite the high pressure from the enemy and ongoing sabotage, Ukraine continues to develop its naval strategy. By integrating new technologies and adapting to asymmetric warfare tactics, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are working to neutralize the Russian threat, ensuring that the ‘Black Sea Fleet’ remains a restricted zone for the aggressor. As the conflict intensifies, the modernization of naval hardware and the deployment of new maritime defense strategies are becoming the key pillars of Ukraine’s resilience against the Kremlin’s attempts to blockade its maritime commerce and terrorize the civilian population.
