A harrowing case of domestic violence has emerged in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where a 24-year-old resident of the Synelnykove district has been charged with torturing his 16-year-old pregnant partner. According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, the investigation revealed a systematic pattern of abuse that lasted throughout April. Driven by pathological jealousy, the suspect attempted to extract a ‘confession’ of infidelity from the victim through severe physical and psychological trauma.
The abuse included physical violence, strangulation, and unlawful confinement within their apartment, as the perpetrator had confiscated the keys. In one particularly brutal act of cruelty, the man held the teenager’s hand against a red-hot gas stove burner. Beyond the physical assault, he exerted total control over her communications, monitoring her phone calls and threatening her to prevent any contact with family members. The victim was eventually able to contact the police when she was left alone in the apartment.
The suspect has been arrested and is facing charges under Part 1 of Article 127 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to torture. The court has remanded him in custody pending further investigation. This incident highlights the critical need for vigilance against domestic abuse and the importance of timely intervention in cases where vulnerable individuals are trapped in violent environments.
