A severe weather warning has been issued across multiple regions of Ukraine, with meteorologists declaring both first and second levels of meteorological danger. According to the official statement from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, the country is facing powerful storm winds, intense thunderstorms, and localized hail. The severe weather conditions have already begun to disrupt daily life and critical infrastructure, leaving thousands of residents without electricity.
By the end of April 26, the western and Vinnytsia regions are expected to endure the brunt of the storm, with wind gusts reaching up to 25-28 meters per second. An orange danger level has been established for these areas. Local media outlets and residents have reported significant damage caused by the extreme winds, including uprooted trees, broken branches, and parts of roofs torn from residential and utility buildings. Authorities are urging the public to exercise extreme caution and remain indoors if possible.
In the rest of the country, the weather situation remains highly volatile. Sustained wind gusts of 15-20 m/s are anticipated across vast territories. The central, southern, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions are particularly vulnerable to severe thunderstorms, with certain districts facing the threat of hail and sudden squalls. A yellow danger level is currently active in these regions. The extreme weather is expected to severely complicate the operations of energy and utility companies, construction sites, and public transportation networks.
A separate meteorological warning was issued for the capital city of Kyiv and the surrounding region. Forecasters predict that high winds of 15-20 m/s will persist throughout April 26 and 27. Such adverse conditions often expose the vulnerabilities of aging urban infrastructure, creating additional hazards for both pedestrians and motorists. Municipal services in the capital have been placed on high alert to quickly address any potential emergencies, clear fallen debris, and maintain traffic safety.
The impact of the cyclone is already being felt acutely in western Ukraine. In the Rivne region, gale-force winds have caused severe damage to local power grids. As a result of severed transmission lines, over 10,000 households across at least 24 settlements have been left without electricity. Emergency energy crews are working around the clock to restore power, but the ongoing storm significantly hampers their repair efforts. Emergency services remind all citizens to keep windows tightly closed, avoid parking vehicles under trees or billboards, and prepare backup power sources in case of prolonged blackouts.
