According to reports from the Lviv City Council, the storm caused significant destruction throughout the city. One of the most severe incidents occurred at the Shevchenkivskyi District Administration building, where strong winds tore off a section of the roof. The falling debris damaged nearby vehicles, and windows were shattered on several floors of the facility.
Mayor Andriy Sadovyi provided updates on the situation, noting that fallen trees and localized flooding have impacted multiple districts. On Copernicus and Yefremov streets, trees were uprooted, with one damaging a trolleybus near Franko Park. The city’s public transport network suffered significant disruption, with tram lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, and 9 being suspended due to damaged overhead power lines. Additionally, a traffic light was destroyed at the intersection of Varshavska and Tunnelna, and power outages were reported on Lypynskoho Street.
City emergency services were immediately dispatched to clear roads and repair damaged infrastructure. Authorities issued a safety warning to residents, urging them to avoid standing near trees, damaged power lines, or unstable structures. Citizens are encouraged to report any hazards to the city’s hotline at 15-80. Recovery efforts are expected to proceed rapidly once the weather conditions stabilize.
Meteorologists have attributed these violent storms to the volatile transition period between extreme heatwaves—where temperatures reached up to 38°C—and cooler, unstable air masses. Similar weather patterns were observed in Lutsk and Rivne. While the damage in Lviv was purely meteorological, the scale of the cleanup highlights the city’s resilience. As repair crews work to restore power and public transportation, officials remind residents to follow official updates and prioritize their personal safety during these sudden climatic shifts.
