In a disturbing case of child abuse in Kharkiv, a 22-year-old mother has been served a notice of suspicion for inflicting severe bodily harm upon her newborn daughter. According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, the abuse began just weeks after the child’s birth in early 2024.
Investigators report that between February and March 2024, the mother repeatedly subjected her daughter, Kvitoslava, to physical violence. Medical examinations revealed that the infant suffered multiple fractures, including to her legs, ribs, and skull, alongside a severe traumatic brain injury. Experts concluded that these injuries resulted from repeated, deliberate trauma inflicted by the mother over an extended period.
The infant’s life was saved only after her grandmother discovered the child’s condition and rushed her to the hospital. The victim remained in intensive care for nearly five months. Since the discovery of the abuse, the grandmother has taken legal guardianship of the child.
The Prosecutor’s Office of the Slobidskyi District of Kharkiv has charged the young mother with multiple offenses, including intentional infliction of moderate and severe bodily harm, as well as malicious failure to fulfill parental duties. If convicted, she faces a significant prison sentence.
