The information space remains a critical battleground in the ongoing war, as Russian propagandists consistently attempt to fabricate virtual victories to mask their real tactical failures. Recently, a wave of disinformation swept through Russian media claiming the «capture» of the village of Zybine in the Kharkiv region by occupying forces. However, these assertions are entirely baseless. The truth was promptly clarified by the 16th Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which published an official statement and video footage showcasing the successful elimination of Russian assault troops in the area.
The «Settlement on Credit» Tactic
According to Ukrainian defenders, the Russian command is actively employing a highly manipulative strategy that Ukrainian soldiers have ironically dubbed «settlement on credit.» This method involves declaring control over a specific village or town well before any actual physical presence is established, or even when Russian forces have been completely repelled.
The purpose of such fabricated reports is twofold: to feed an illusion of unstoppable progress to the domestic Russian audience and to conduct psychological warfare aimed at demoralizing the Ukrainian public. Military officials emphasize that these fake news pieces are designed solely to justify the astronomical casualties the Russian army suffers during its futile frontal assaults.
Tactical Reality: Combat Details Near Zybine
Contrary to the triumphant claims in Russian internet publications, the operational situation around Zybine remains firmly under the control of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. The enemy did attempt to conduct offensive actions using assault units from the 127th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 71st Motorized Rifle Division. Their goal was to expand their so-called «controlled zone.» However, these plans were thwarted before they could even materialize.
Ukrainian aerial reconnaissance proactively detected the movement of the enemy’s assault groups. Thanks to the precise and coordinated work of artillery and strike drone operators, devastating fire was rained down upon the invaders. As a result of the engagement, the enemy suffered significant losses. Eight Russian servicemen were killed in action, and another four sustained severe wounds. Additionally, Ukrainian forces destroyed an enemy all-terrain quad bike used for rapid troop transport. The 16th Army Corps released footage of the successful strike, serving as irrefutable evidence against the Russian propaganda machine.
Information Warfare and Resilience
This incident with Zybine is just one of many episodes where Russia has tried to substitute reality with wishful thinking. In the past, similar psychological operations have included premature declarations of «complete control» over entire regions, which Ukrainian forces have repeatedly debunked.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine urge citizens and the international community to rely exclusively on official and verified sources of information. The 16th Army Corps continues to stand as a formidable shield in the Kharkiv region, demonstrating high efficiency in repelling enemy attacks. No amount of «credit» victories manufactured in cyberspace will save the occupying forces from the harsh reality of their defeats on Ukrainian soil.
