Serhiy Koretskyi’s Government: Preparing for Winter and Accelerating International Cooperation

The primary objectives for the new government led by Serhiy Koretskyi are preparing Ukraine for the upcoming winter and accelerating the implementation of agreements with international partners. This was officially announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his evening address on July 16. The appointment marks a new phase in the nation’s governance, aimed at stabilizing critical infrastructure and enhancing defense capabilities.

President Zelenskyy emphasized the new Prime Minister’s successful track record in managing state energy companies, most notably Ukrnafta. His experience in dismantling oligarchic influence and optimizing internal processes is viewed as a vital asset for the state. The President made it clear that regardless of the tactical scenarios on the front line, Ukraine must be fully prepared to protect its citizens and ensure a functional energy grid through the winter months despite persistent Russian strikes.

In addition to domestic energy security, the government is tasked with accelerating investments into long-range strike capabilities to degrade the Russian military’s ability to sustain its offensive operations. Zelenskyy highlighted that a shift in working with international partners is necessary, demanding greater speed and efficiency in fulfilling all signed agreements. This new dynamic of cooperation is crucial for securing the funding and technical support required for reconstruction efforts.

The Verkhovna Rada has officially confirmed the appointment of Serhiy Koretskyi as Prime Minister and approved most of the cabinet members, leaving the positions of the Minister of Defense and the Minister of Foreign Affairs vacant for the time being. Prime Minister Koretskyi himself has warned that the upcoming heating season will likely be more challenging than previous ones due to the increased frequency of attacks on energy infrastructure. The government is currently operating under a high-priority schedule to prepare for these challenges, focusing on resource mobilization and proactive defense measures to shield the population from the coming winter hardships.
