Four Ukrainian citizens, crew members of the container ship Epaminondas, have successfully returned home after being detained by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the Strait of Hormuz. According to official information provided by Interfax-Ukraine, the Ukrainian nationals are now safe and have reunited with their families after a tense period of uncertainty.
The incident occurred back in April when the IRGC seized several vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, including the Epaminondas. Since that time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Embassy in Greece have been engaged in relentless negotiations to secure the sailors’ freedom. Diplomatic efforts involved constant coordination with the Greek shipping company, the sailors’ families, and relevant international stakeholders to ensure a positive resolution.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi confirmed that the efforts resulted in the sailors’ release, noting that their health is stable and they are now in a safe environment.
