Russian PSYOP Exposed: Chernihiv Recruitment Center Debunks Fake Video Showing Inhumane Conditions

A viral video circulating widely on social media platforms, purporting to show appalling and inhumane conditions at a Ukrainian military recruitment center, has been definitively exposed as a fabricated piece of Russian propaganda. The footage, heavily promoted by anonymous Telegram channels, claimed to depict a holding facility inside the Pryluky District Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support (TCC) in the Chernihiv region.

The video deliberately showcased a dilapidated, cell-like room with exposed brick walls, barred windows, and overall unsanitary conditions. Accompanying captions manipulated viewers by alleging that this was how Ukrainian citizens were being unlawfully detained and treated during the draft process.

However, the Chernihiv Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support swiftly categorized the footage as a calculated Information and Psychological Operation (PSYOP). In an official statement, military representatives explicitly clarified that the room shown in the video has absolutely no connection to the Pryluky TCC or any other official recruitment facility in the region.

“Telegram channels specializing in hyper-sensationalized news about the so-called ‘resistance to mobilization’ are once again spreading cynical lies and manipulative content,” the official military statement read. “This material is entirely fake and bears all the hallmarks of a targeted psychological operation designed to discredit the Armed Forces of Ukraine and disrupt critical mobilization efforts.”

The ongoing information war remains a critical front in Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Enemy propagandists actively exploit the sensitive topic of military conscription to sow discord, panic, and distrust between the civilian population and the military leadership. They rely on the rapid spread of unverified visual content to trigger emotional responses before official fact-checking can take place.

It is important to note that Ukraine, as a democratic state, actively monitors and addresses genuine shortcomings within its recruitment system. Recently, representatives of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) conducted transparent monitoring of a TCC facility in Uzhhorod, openly documenting real violations such as unsanitary conditions and procedural breaches. Unlike Russian fabrications, these genuine issues are publicly acknowledged and legally addressed.

Recognizing the operational challenges, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense recently announced that comprehensive reforms to the mobilization system are currently in development. These upcoming changes aim to modernize the process, ensure legal compliance, and improve overall transparency.

In light of the recent psychological operations, Ukrainian military officials strongly urge the public to practice strict media hygiene. Citizens are advised to rely exclusively on verified, official sources, to exercise critical thinking, and to refrain from sharing sensationalized misinformation that inadvertently serves the enemy’s agenda.
