Russian occupation forces have launched a devastating airstrike using guided aerial bombs (KABs) on a local civilian market in the settlement of Vasylkivka, Synelnykove district, Dnipropetrovsk oblast. According to the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, the community was targeted with 12 guided bombs, wounding at least nine people and causing extensive damage to civilian infrastructure.
The daytime strike triggered a massive fire at the market, engulfing numerous commercial structures. Emergency services reported that eight shops and ten shopping kiosks were either completely destroyed or severely damaged. Furthermore, the powerful blast wave destroyed an adjacent multi-apartment residential building. Of the nine injured civilians, six have been hospitalized, with a 40-year-old man in serious condition. Local police reports indicate that across the Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian attacks have claimed one life and injured twelve civilians since the start of the day.
The deliberate targeting of a crowded marketplace represents a continuation of Russia’s systematic campaign of terror against Ukrainian civilians. Guided aerial bombs, retrofitted with wing kits and GPS guidance, allow Russian tactical bombers to release payloads from distances of 40 to 70 kilometers away, staying out of range of Ukraine’s tactical air defenses. The high-explosive yield of these weapons results in catastrophic damage when deployed against unfortified civilian areas.
Military analysts emphasize that the only effective countermeasure to the KAB threat is intercepting the Russian aircraft before they deploy their glide bombs.
