Russian Industrial Sites Targeted as Moscow Intensifies Terror Attacks

Наслідки влучання по енергетичній інфраструктурі РФ

According to the official report by the [General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine](https://www.mil.gov.ua/), on May 5, Ukrainian security services conducted a strategic strike against key Russian defense and oil infrastructure. Drones successfully hit the KINEF refinery in the Leningrad region, a massive facility essential to Russia’s oil processing capacity. Simultaneously, a ‘Flamingo’ missile strike disabled the VNIIIR-Progress plant in Cheboksary, located 1,500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, which produces vital electronic components for Russian naval and aerial weaponry.

These precision strikes serve as a response to Russia’s increasingly brutal campaign against Ukrainian civilians. On the same day, Russian forces utilized a ‘double-tap’ tactic, striking rescue workers in the Poltava region who were actively responding to an earlier fire at a gas facility. This war crime resulted in two fatalities among emergency personnel and over 20 wounded.

Zaporizhzhia also suffered a devastating aerial attack using guided bombs, killing 12 people and wounding 37. Similar tragic reports emerged from Kramatorsk and Dnipro, where ballistic missile strikes targeted critical infrastructure and residential areas, leading to further civilian casualties. President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned these attacks, pointing to the absolute cynicism of Russian leadership, which continues to target energy grids and rescue workers while simultaneously calling for artificial ‘silence’ on the frontlines.

In light of the ongoing drone warfare, the European Commission has launched the ‘EU-Ukraine Drone Alliance.’ This initiative is designed to integrate the industrial capacity of the EU with Ukraine’s battle-hardened drone tactics, aiming to create a robust supply chain for both defensive and offensive aerial systems. The alliance will leverage the expertise of European startups and manufacturers to counter the evolving threats on the battlefield.

Diplomatically, the Office of the President of Ukraine reiterated that any potential ceasefire must be reciprocal, though current events on the front suggest that Russia remains committed to an escalation strategy. Meanwhile, the domestic economic toll is becoming increasingly evident, with the State Statistics Service reporting a 0.7% decline in Ukraine’s real GDP for Q1 2026. As the war of attrition continues, the resilience of the Ukrainian state depends on both military successes like the strikes on Russia’s WPK (Military-Industrial Complex) and sustained international support.
