April 16, 2026 — Russia carried out a second consecutive large-scale missile and drone strike against Ukraine. Hits were recorded in Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, and Dnipro. According to preliminary data from the State Emergency Service (SES), at least 15 people were killed and more than 100 were injured.

Kyiv
An air raid alert was declared in the capital at 02:31. The enemy used ballistic missiles launched from the direction of Bryansk, Russia. Destruction was recorded in four districts: Podilskyi, Obolonskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, and Desnianskyi.
According to updated figures from Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko, 4 people were killed, including a 12-year-old boy, and 48 were injured, with 26 hospitalised. Among the wounded were four paramedics responding to a call in the Obolonskyi district and two police officers.
In the Obolonskyi district, parked cars caught fire and a warehouse building, a tire service, and a shop were damaged. In the Podilskyi district, multiple strikes destroyed building facades and two hotels; two people were found dead under the rubble of a residential building. Two survivors, including a child, were pulled from the debris of a single-storey house. Ten residents were evacuated from the sixth floor of a 16-storey building without casualties. A two-storey residential house caught fire in the Desnianskyi district.
Odesa
The deadliest consequences were in Odesa, where a strike on a multi-storey residential building killed 8 people and wounded 16. A large-scale fire broke out, destroying some apartments entirely. Rescue teams worked in extremely difficult conditions to extinguish the blaze and clear the debris. Port infrastructure, warehouse facilities, and three five-storey dormitories were also damaged.
Dnipro and Dnipropetrovsk Region
In Dnipro, the evening and overnight attack triggered fires at multiple sites — residential buildings, an office building, garages, and a school. Two people were killed and 30 were injured; five are in critical condition.
In the Novooleksandrivska community, a drone strike damaged a private house and injured a 14-year-old girl. In the Nikopol district, one man was killed and three others were wounded. More than 200 rescue personnel and 55 SES vehicles were deployed to manage the aftermath.
Kharkiv
Drones struck residential areas in the Industrialnyi and Nemyshlianskyi districts. In Industrialnyi, a car caught fire after an explosion. In Nemyshlianskyi, windows of five private houses and a gas network were damaged; two people sought medical attention. Later in the morning, a drone hit a garden cooperative in the Saltivskyi district, starting a fire in an outbuilding and damaging windows of a nearby apartment block. No casualties were reported.
This is the second consecutive large-scale attack: on April 15, Russia deployed more than 20 missiles and 349 drones across various regions of the country. Casualty figures for April 16 continue to be updated.
