The targeted shelling of major metropolitan areas highlights the Kremlin’s total disregard for global humanitarian and cultural norms.
The massive combined bombardment targeted Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and other administrative centers, leaving at least 11 people dead and 53 wounded. In the capital, Kyiv, five civilians lost their lives, and 35 others sustained injuries, while over 26 residential buildings suffered extensive damage. Shockingly, the strikes caused a fire on the roof of the Assumption Cathedral within the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra—a renowned UNESCO World Heritage site. By striking such highly symbolic religious and historical monuments, Russia continues to wage a campaign aimed not just at territorial conquest, but at the systematic erasure of Ukrainian identity and culture.
In Kharkiv, the occupation forces utilized a highly cynical “double-tap” strike strategy. A secondary attack in the Kholodnohirsky district killed five rescue workers who were actively clearing debris, leaving five more first responders injured. The attack also wounded 13 civilians, including a one-month-old infant, and damaged the city’s art museum.
