“Reserve Soldier” Status and MOS 999: Can an Employee Be Exempted and What Happens to Deferments After May 4

«Солдат резерву» та ВОС 999: чи можна забронювати і що буде з відстрочкою після 4 травня

Many conscripts have noticed a new entry in the “Rezerv+” app — “reserve soldier” alongside MOS 999. This has sparked a wave of questions: does this make someone a reservist, can they be granted an employment deferment, and will deferments be extended after May 4? The Kadroland team breaks it all down.

What does “reserve soldier” actually mean

The “Rezerv+” app bot gives a clear answer: a reserve soldier is a status for someone who is registered for military service but has never served, never completed basic training, and has no combat experience. It simply records the absence of a military specialty — the person remains an ordinary conscript.

  • Reserve soldier ≠ Reservist: A reservist is someone who has completed military service. A reserve soldier has not. These are two entirely different categories.
  • What is MOS 999: A military occupational specialty code assigned to those who have not completed service or training camps. It changes to a different code after mobilization and basic training.
  • Basic training — when: Basic general military training takes place after mobilization — not before. There is no need to visit a military recruitment center to clarify or correct anything.

What this means for deferments and exemptions

  • The “reserve soldier” entry does not prevent an employer from filing for deferment — exemptions can be obtained and extended on standard grounds.
  • All deferments currently valid through May 3 inclusive must be extended under standard procedures — this entry creates no obstacles.
  • Since persons with MOS 999 are not reservists, employers may include them in the deferment headcount limit.

Important for employers

If an employee’s reservist status is not indicated in their electronic military records, an employer typically only finds out about it when a deferment application is rejected. Genuine operational reservists usually know their own status themselves.
