Agricultural land near the Chernobyl exclusion zone was illegally used for grain farming for years. According to prosecutors, the scheme was orchestrated through a forged district council resolution: the plots were first transferred into communal ownership, then handed over to a private company — without any of the required permits.
The total area of illegal wheat and corn cultivation exceeded 190 hectares. Authorities warn that such activity poses a potential health risk to the public. The plots are currently being returned to state ownership through the courts.
