Motorcycles and ‘Urals’ Instead of Armor: 225th Assault Regiment Crushes Russian Offensive in Zaporizhzhia

Ukrainian forces of the 225th Separate Assault Regiment of the Ground Forces have successfully repelled another absurd Russian offensive in the Zaporizhzhia region. The enemy forces attempted a rapid breakthrough using motorcycles and entirely unarmored «Ural» military trucks, only to be completely decimated by precise Ukrainian fire. The official video of this intense engagement was released by the 225th Separate Assault Regiment, showcasing the swift destruction of the attacking group. This localized success occurred amid widespread and extremely heavy frontline clashes, with the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reporting 153 combat engagements over the past 24 hours.

«Another enemy assault in the Zaporizhzhia region — on motorcycles, as well as… on a ‘Ural’», the regiment’s official statement read. The released aerial footage vividly demonstrates the vulnerability of these tactics. Russian troops attempted to rely on speed and maneuverability, hoping to cross the «gray zone» and reach Ukrainian trenches undetected. However, proactive Ukrainian aerial reconnaissance, coupled with devastatingly accurate drone and artillery strikes, turned the assault into a deadly trap for the Russian infantry.

The continuous use of cross-country motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, and standard logistical trucks like «Urals» for frontline assaults has become a grim trademark of the Russian military. Analysts point out that this is not a tactical innovation but a forced measure resulting from a severe shortage of heavy armored vehicles—tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, and armored personnel carriers—which have been massively destroyed by Ukrainian forces. Sending infantry into direct assaults without basic armor protection essentially guarantees their annihilation under the dense crossfire of Ukrainian defenders.

The sheer scale of Russian losses is staggering. According to the 225th Regiment, while the Russian command continues to send its soldiers into meat assaults in open «Urals», Ukrainian defense forces have already neutralized two entire enemy regiments and two brigades in the Gulyaipole direction alone. This statistic highlights both the horrific attrition rate of the Russian army and the unwavering resilience of Ukrainian troops defending the southern front.

According to the General Staff’s situational report for April 19, 2026, the overall battlefield environment remains incredibly hostile. Of the 153 reported combat engagements, the highest intensity was recorded on the Pokrovsk axis in the Donetsk region, where Ukrainian troops repelled 28 massive enemy assaults. The Gulyaipole axis in Zaporizhzhia was also a hotspot, enduring 12 focused breakthrough attempts.

Furthermore, the scale of Russian aerial and drone warfare has reached unprecedented levels. In a single day, the invading forces deployed an astonishing 9,360 kamikaze drones and dropped 216 guided aerial bombs (KABs) on Ukrainian military positions and civilian settlements. Yet, despite this overwhelming firepower and aerial dominance, Russian attempts to advance repeatedly end in failure. Suicidal charges on motorcycles and unarmored trucks only result in adding more twisted metal to the Ukrainian fields and increasing the daily casualty toll of the aggressor state. The Armed Forces of Ukraine remain steadfast, continuously degrading the combat capability of the invading army.
