Ukrainian law enforcement agencies have successfully dismantled a large-scale network of fraudulent cryptocurrency exchanges that targeted citizens across the country. As reported by Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko, the operation involved over 20 simultaneous searches across seven regions, resulting in the seizure of over 20 million UAH in various currencies.
The criminal group operated under the guise of legitimate financial services, utilizing professional websites, Telegram channels, and automated systems to confirm exchange requests. The scheme was designed to build trust; however, after customers provided cash for cryptocurrency conversion, the service providers would immediately cease communication and disappear with the funds. The audacity of the perpetrators was such that they even attempted to steal 50,000 UAH from undercover officers during a sting operation, confirming the systemic nature of the fraud.
The National Police of Ukraine noted that the network operated without the required financial licenses. During the ongoing investigation, authorities are searching the residences of the suspects and the physical premises of the illicit exchange points. Investigators are currently gathering documentation, vehicles, and assets that will be used to compensate the victims. At least one primary suspect has been detained, and authorities are preparing formal notices of suspicion for the entire group involved in the conspiracy.
Cybersecurity experts warn that such fraudulent schemes often thrive during periods of economic instability. By masking their operations as legitimate financial businesses, these criminals exploit the vulnerability of individuals looking for reliable ways to transfer or save their assets. The police continue to urge citizens to use only verified and licensed financial platforms and to be wary of entities that offer suspicious rates or operate primarily through anonymous messaging applications.
As the investigation proceeds, the authorities are working to determine the full extent of the damages caused to the public. While officials have not officially named the brand involved, media reports suggest the network may have been operating under the name Money 24/7. This case serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with the largely unregulated digital asset market in Ukraine, even as the country makes significant strides in professionalizing its financial and security sectors to match European standards.
