Massive Air Terror: Poltava Region Under Drone Attack Amidst Strategic Missile Threat

Російська атака на Полтавщину та загроза ракетного удару

On the night of May 14, Ukraine faced a large-scale air assault as enemy UAVs targeted the Poltava region. As reported by Vitaliy Dyakivnich, head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, the region was subjected to a drone strike, prompting nationwide air raid alerts. The Ukrainian Air Force confirmed that MiG-31K jets, capable of carrying hypersonic missiles, were airborne, escalating the threat across the entire country.

Monitoring services have also identified the takeoff of Tu-95MS strategic bombers from the Olenya airbase, alongside four Tu-160 bombers from Ukrainka. Military analysts estimate the total potential salvo to be between 48 and 64 cruise missiles. This latest escalation reflects the Kremlin’s consistent strategy of attempting to overwhelm Ukrainian air defenses through saturation attacks on critical energy and logistics infrastructure.

Experts observe that the timing of these strikes is highly calculated. The current wave of attacks occurs against the backdrop of significant international diplomatic activity, suggesting that the Russian Federation is using military terror as a bargaining chip. By escalating the violence, the Russian leadership seeks to project strength and disrupt ongoing global political negotiations.

Despite the intensity of the assault, Ukrainian air defense units remain on high alert, working to neutralize incoming threats and protect civilian areas. Local authorities have urged all residents to remain in bomb shelters until the threat dissipates, emphasizing that the danger remains severe while the strategic bombers are active in the airspace. The pattern of these attacks—targeting both civilian residential areas and vital infrastructure—highlights the persistent, criminal nature of the ongoing Russian invasion. As the situation evolves, the focus remains on the resilience of the Ukrainian defenders and the necessity of continued support to safeguard the nation’s sky from this systematic aerial aggression.
