Laura Loomer, an American political activist and blogger known for her alignment with controversial political stances, has arrived in Ukraine. She announced her arrival via her profile on X, sharing footage of her train journey. Her visit represents a significant turning point in her public stance, as she openly admitted to having been misled by Russian propaganda for years.
Loomer confessed that she had previously disseminated false claims regarding Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. She stated that she would not delete her past posts, as she wishes to document her transformation after realizing she had been living in an “information bubble.” According to the blogger, the sophistication of Russian state media operations on social platforms was instrumental in convincing her of fabricated narratives.
The trip was intended as a fact-finding mission to verify the claims she had heard previously. However, her initial experiences in Ukraine shattered her previous perceptions. Upon visiting Bucha, Loomer witnessed documentation of Russian war crimes, including images of priests killed during the occupation and mass graves. Perhaps most harrowing was her interaction with organizations dedicated to the repatriation of prisoners of war. After being shown evidence of torture, including reports of Russian forces carving swastikas into the skin of Ukrainian captives, Loomer questioned: “Who are the Nazis then? I have been lied to for years.”
This journey has led the blogger to fundamentally re-evaluate her stance on global politics, shifting her criticism toward Vladimir Putin’s regime. Loomer concluded that Russia conducts an exceptionally effective information war, and she now considers it her duty to rectify the misinformation she helped propagate.
