The Prosecutor General’s Office has reported the conclusion of an investigation into a military warehouse chief accused of embezzling over 6.2 million UAH worth of military property. The equipment, intended for the air defense of Southern Ukraine, was systematically stolen by the 28-year-old official between June 2023 and September 2025.
According to the investigation, the suspect abused his official position to misappropriate engineering and aviation assets, including drones, ground control stations, specialized cameras, and power banks. The stolen items were sold to civilians, volunteers, and private entrepreneurs, or used for the suspect’s personal benefit. In a sophisticated attempt to launder his illicit profits, the suspect allegedly used the proceeds to purchase a Lexus for 400,000 UAH, subsequently reselling it for double the price to hide the criminal origin of the funds.
This case highlights the ongoing challenges regarding internal security and procurement integrity within the Armed Forces. The suspect has been remanded in custody with an alternative bail set at 5.4 million UAH. Currently, he has begun partial restitution of the damages caused to the state. He faces charges related to the theft of military property, embezzlement, and money laundering.
Such actions directly undermine the efforts of Ukrainian defenders. Each piece of equipment, especially those critical to the air defense of the Odesa region, plays a vital role in protecting civilian infrastructure from Russian missile and drone attacks. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the necessity for strict oversight, as the security of the nation depends on the integrity of its military personnel at every level of the chain of command. Legal proceedings are currently underway to ensure the perpetrator is held accountable for this significant breach of public trust and military duty.
