Ukrainian football is on the verge of a major identity shift as Kharkiv-based Metalist 1925 prepares for a comprehensive summer rebranding. According to an official report by the reputable sports channel TaToTake, the club plans to completely overhaul its public profile, starting with a historic name change to FC Kharkiv. This transformation represents a strategic move to define a unique brand identity within the domestic league while paying tribute to its resilient home city.
The primary catalyst for this decision is the management’s desire to eliminate ongoing confusion caused by the coexistence of two active clubs named Metalist in the Ukrainian football landscape. By adopting the name FC Kharkiv, the club honors the bravery and spirit of its home region. Club officials have clarified that this new iteration of FC Kharkiv will share no historical or legal links with the former club of the same name, which competed in the Ukrainian Top Flight between 2005 and 2009 before losing its professional status sixteen years ago.
Alongside the name change, fans can expect a complete visual modernization. The club is set to introduce a redesigned crest, fresh symbolism, and a revised color palette. While the traditional yellow color will remain to ensure continuity, its shade will be significantly altered to present a more modern look. Management emphasizes that these updates do not represent a rejection of Metalist 1925’s heritage, but rather a celebratory evolution marking the club’s 10th anniversary.
The official rollout of the new identity is pending regulatory approval from the Ukrainian Association of Football (UAF) and the Ukrainian Premier League (UPL). Once approved, an official announcement and presentation are scheduled for mid-June.
Having finished the previous season in a strong fifth place in the UPL and reaching the semifinals of the Ukrainian Cup, the newly minted FC Kharkiv enters the upcoming campaign with high sporting ambitions, aiming to match its fresh corporate identity with top-tier performances on the pitch.
