Italy has firmly rejected reports suggesting it intends to block financial and military aid to Ukraine for 2027, maintaining its unwavering support for Kyiv. According to the Italian news agency ANSA, high-level government sources in Rome have dismissed recent claims that Italy opposed long-term financial obligations for Ukraine.
The controversy stemmed from reports in the German press alleging that Italy had concerns regarding the 70-billion-euro pledge for Ukraine in the upcoming NATO Ankara summit declaration. However, Rome clarified that this was merely a procedural discussion regarding the technical inclusion of fixed figures in the official text. Government officials emphasized that any such concerns were resolved days ago, and there are currently no obstacles to Italy’s participation in the aid package.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Italy continues to prioritize international defense cooperation. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani reaffirmed the government’s pledge to boost domestic defense spending to 2.8% of GDP, underscoring Italy’s active role in strengthening European security. As part of this effort, Italy is also preparing to deploy a SAMP-T anti-missile defense battery in Turkey to support Alliance operations.
