In the first half of 2026, Ukraine’s automotive market showed a significant shift as demand for hybrid vehicles surged. According to the official data from Ukrautoprom, 19,100 hybrid vehicles were registered during this period, representing a 34% increase compared to the same timeframe last year. This trend highlights a growing preference for fuel efficiency and transitional technologies among Ukrainian drivers.
The Toyota RAV4 maintains its position as the most popular new hybrid, with 1,770 units registered in the first six months of the year. It is followed by the Nissan Qashqai (601 units) and the Toyota Yaris Cross (511 units). These models continue to dominate due to their proven reliability and performance in various driving conditions.
A notable trend is the shift in the market structure. While new cars previously accounted for 61% of all hybrid registrations, that figure has now fallen to 51%. This indicates a rising interest in imported used hybrid vehicles, which offer a more affordable entry point for many consumers. Among used hybrids, the Ford Escape leads the market with 555 registrations, followed by the Ford Fusion US (470) and the Toyota Prius (460).
Analysts at Factage Ukraine suggest that the move toward hybrids is largely driven by the practical need for energy independence in an environment where electric charging infrastructure may face stability challenges. Unlike pure EVs, hybrids offer a flexible solution that combines low fuel consumption with the freedom of internal combustion engines.
The current automotive landscape in Ukraine reflects broader economic and logistical adaptations. As consumers prioritize durability and cost-effectiveness, the hybrid segment is likely to retain its momentum throughout the remainder of the year. While the demand for pure electric vehicles has fluctuated, the hybrid sector has proven itself to be a stable and essential component of the national automotive market, balancing modern technology with everyday operational convenience.
