On Sunday, April 26, 2026, the center of Wrocław, Poland, became the scene of a horrifying and brutal crime. A 32-year-old Ukrainian national named Dmytro miraculously survived a frenzied knife attack during what was supposed to be a routine car sale. Posing as interested buyers, two Polish men stabbed him 14 times before fleeing the scene. According to the news portal InPoland, local law enforcement has already apprehended both suspects, while the victim continues his recovery in a hospital.
The Deceptive Setup
The ordeal began when Dmytro listed his vehicle for sale on a local marketplace. Two men responded to the ad and arranged a viewing. During the initial meeting, the suspects inspected the car and claimed they were fully satisfied with the condition. Dmytro, suspecting nothing, briefly returned home to gather the necessary documents for the purchase agreement.
Upon his return, the suspects’ behavior grew increasingly bizarre. They asked Dmytro to drive them to an ATM to withdraw cash for the vehicle. Over the next hour, they stopped at approximately 15 different ATMs, with the men repeatedly claiming they could not withdraw the funds. They eventually asked to be taken to a Żabka convenience store, but again returned empty-handed, citing a long queue at the cash register.
A Brutal Ambush in the Vehicle
Despite the highly suspicious circumstances, Dmytro sat in the driver’s seat and began filling out the standard purchase contract. Without any warning, the two suspects launched a vicious assault, stabbing him repeatedly with knives. Adrenaline kicking in, Dmytro managed to unfasten his seatbelt, kick the car door open, and escape into the street, shouting loudly for help. His fierce resistance seemingly panicked the attackers. They fled the scene immediately, though one of them dropped his smartphone in the process—a critical piece of evidence left behind.
Miraculous Survival and Medical Response
Bleeding heavily from 14 distinct stab wounds, Dmytro managed to call his girlfriend and agreed to meet her at a nearby gas station. Demonstrating incredible resilience, he reached the gas station on his own. Bystanders, including other Ukrainians present at the scene, rushed to provide critical first aid while an ambulance and police were dispatched. Dmytro stayed conscious just long enough to brief the arriving officers about the perpetrators before passing out in the ambulance.
Surgeons worked tirelessly, applying over 50 stitches to close his wounds. Miraculously, no vital organs were fatally struck, and his life is no longer in danger.
A Disturbing Trend of Violence
This brutal attempted murder raises serious questions regarding safety during peer-to-peer transactions and highlights a deeply concerning trend of violence against Ukrainian nationals in Poland. The excessive cruelty of 14 stabs points to potential underlying xenophobia rather than simple vehicle theft. Earlier this month, a separate incident in the Polish town of Przasnysz saw two local men attack Ukrainians with a machete, an act explicitly motivated by the victims’ nationality. Polish authorities are now tasked with determining the full motives behind the Wrocław attack to ensure justice is served and to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
