“Faith in God’s Grace and Our Bravery”: Volodymyr and Olena Zelenska Address the Nation on Easter

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska extended their Easter greetings to the nation from the historic St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv. In a video message published by the presidential press service, the couple emphasized the resilience of the Ukrainian spirit and the importance of unity during the ongoing war.

Olena Zelenska opened the address by quoting the ancient inscription above the cathedral’s famous Oranta mosaic: “God is in the midst of the city – it shall not be moved.” She highlighted that these words hold profound meaning for Ukrainians, who have been fighting for their survival and freedom for over 1,500 days. President Zelenskyy expanded on this, noting that the war is not solely a physical battle on the frontlines but also a fierce spiritual and emotional struggle. “It is a battle of truth against lies, faith against despair, and hope against hopelessness,” he stated.

The presidential couple stressed that in these turbulent times, the light needed to persevere is found in the people—in everyday acts of kindness, simple questions like “How are you?”, and constant mutual support. Despite the immense pain and the evil surrounding the country, Ukrainians continue to celebrate their fifth Easter in a state of war. The First Lady pointed out that preserving traditions, such as baking paska and painting Easter eggs, is not merely about holiday decor; it is a testament to a nation that strives for life and prosperity to bloom.

Looking toward the future, the Zelenskys expressed their deepest hope for the first peaceful Easter across all Ukrainian territories. They envisioned a day when the sound of church bells will no longer be interrupted by air raid sirens, and when families will finally reunite with those returning from the frontlines, Russian captivity, and occupied territories.

“We rely not only on heavenly forces but also on our Security and Defense Forces,” the President declared. “We believe equally in God’s grace and our bravery. We hope for the intercession of our Oranta and the accuracy of our long-range weapons.” He praised Ukrainians for creating miracles every day through their courage, hard work, and dedication.

In light of the holiday, Ukrainian security services and police have heightened their presence across the country. Authorities have warned citizens of potential Russian provocations and terrorist threats during Easter, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement immediately.
