The European Union has formally summoned the Russian chargé d’affaires to Brussels in response to Moscow’s highly provocative statements threatening mass airstrikes on Kyiv, which directly endanger Western diplomatic personnel in the Ukrainian capital. As reported by the primary source Ukrinform, European Commission spokesperson Anitta Hipper stated that these hostile actions demonstrate Russia’s total disregard for peace efforts and its commitment to violating international law.

Hipper emphasized that Russia’s primary goal in issuing these threats is to sow panic and isolate Ukraine by forcing foreign diplomatic missions to flee the capital. However, the EU has made its stance clear: its presence in Kyiv remains unchanged. Brussels refuses to give in to military or missile blackmail, reaffirming its solidarity with the Ukrainian people during this critical phase of the war.

The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, previously characterized Moscow’s menacing rhetoric as “smelling of desperation.” Facing mounting pressure on the battlefield and worsening economic conditions due to global sanctions, the Kremlin relies on psychological operations to weaken international support for Ukraine. Nonetheless, European leaders emphasize that deliberate strikes on civilians and non-military targets constitute war crimes, and all responsible commanders and political figures will eventually face justice.

Looking forward, the European Union plans to convert its political solidarity into tangible military and financial support. EU foreign ministers are scheduled to hold an informal meeting in Cyprus to discuss the fast-tracking of advanced air defense systems to Ukraine. This meeting will also focus on closing loopholes in existing sanctions and increasing financial aid to bolster Kyiv’s resilience. Russia’s attempt to terrorize the West has only accelerated the consolidation of European defense initiatives and solidified long-term support for Ukraine.
