Crippling the Russian War Machine: Analysis of Strategic Strikes on Ammo Depots and Explosives Plants

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has officially confirmed a series of successful strikes on key Russian military-industrial facilities. By targeting the Kedrovka GRAU arsenal and major explosives production plants, the Ukrainian military is systematically dismantling the logistics and production capabilities that sustain the Russian occupation forces.

The hit on the GRAU arsenal in the Sverdlovsk region is of particular strategic importance, as this facility was central to the storage of missile and artillery weaponry. More significantly, the strike on the Sverdlovsk Plant in Dzerzhinsk targets the core of Russia’s explosive substance production. This facility is responsible for arming almost all types of munitions, including the artillery shells and high-explosive aerial bombs (FABs) that are routinely converted into the glide bombs (KABs) used against Ukrainian urban areas. Additionally, the destruction of infrastructure at the Bryansk Chemical Plant further disrupts the supply chain required to fuel the Russian war machine.

These operations signify a shift toward a long-range attrition strategy. By neutralizing facilities that produce the raw materials for aggression, Ukraine is forcing a disruption that cannot be easily repaired by Russia’s heavily sanctioned economy. These strikes prove that geography is no longer a shield for Russian industry; drones are successfully reaching deep into the country’s interior, targeting the very heart of its military-industrial complex.

This campaign is not merely about individual fires or explosions; it is about significantly reducing the volume of ammunition available to the frontline Russian units. As Ukraine continues to innovate and scale its strike capabilities, the cost of the war for the Kremlin is rising exponentially. The systematic destruction of refineries, chemical plants, and artillery depots represents a critical phase in the war—one where technological ingenuity serves as the primary equalizer against a numerically superior foe. Moving forward, the effectiveness of these strikes will continue to dictate the intensity of Russian offensive operations, potentially leading to a degradation of their combat potential in the coming months.
