Law enforcement agencies in Dnipro have uncovered a major corruption scheme involving an arbitration manager who chaired the liquidation committee of a state-owned scientific enterprise. According to an official statement from the Prosecutor General’s Office, the official attempted to sell state-owned real estate at a fraction of its market value in exchange for a 3 million UAH bribe. This incident highlights the persistent challenges Ukraine faces in safeguarding state property from illicit appropriation during wartime.
Investigators revealed that the suspect orchestrated a complex scheme to manipulate the auction process. The plan involved retroactively registering the prospective buyer as a tenant of the facility to grant them a preferential position during the sale. Furthermore, the suspect intended to submit forged documentation regarding alleged renovation work to justify an extreme price reduction. The property, measuring approximately 900 square meters, has a market value estimated at 15 million UAH, but it was set to be auctioned off for a mere 90,000 UAH.
The arbitration manager was apprehended on July 9 while receiving an initial bribe payment of 600,000 UAH. Searches of the suspect’s premises yielded critical evidence, including official stamps, computers, mobile phones, and financial documents that substantiate the intent to embezzle state property. Currently, the court has ordered the suspect to be detained with the option of release on bail set at 5 million UAH.
This arrest is part of a broader crackdown on corruption within Ukraine’s state sector. As the nation continues to fight against external aggression, the integrity of state institutions remains a top priority. Tackling such systemic graft is not only essential for domestic stability but is also a critical component of Ukraine’s integration into the European Union. Transparent asset management and the prevention of illicit enrichment are central themes in the ongoing reform processes required for EU membership.
The investigation remains active as authorities work to identify potential accomplices and review other assets previously managed by the suspect. The case is being handled under strict oversight to ensure that those who undermine state stability during these challenging times are held accountable, reinforcing the message that the rule of law remains paramount in modern Ukraine.
