Ukraine has secured confidential agreements with Middle Eastern nations regarding the supply of anti-ballistic missiles, as announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following the Ukraine–Southeast Europe summit. This strategic move marks a new chapter in bolstering Ukraine’s air defense, which is increasingly dependent on the capability to intercept advanced ballistic targets.
President Zelenskyy noted that the details of this cooperation remain undisclosed, as the deliveries are contingent upon the geopolitical landscape and the prospects for peace in the Middle East. “We hope for peace for the people of the Middle East, yet the anti-ballistic protection of our state is intrinsically linked to the global security architecture,” the President stated.
This initiative gains significance following the recent formation of an Anti-Ballistic Coalition, consisting of ten nations. Together, the members are focused on developing the Freyja missile defense system, intended to serve as a robust shield against Russia’s relentless aerial attacks. The reliance on diversified supply chains is a calculated risk, aimed at ensuring that the Ukrainian sky remains defended despite the high volume of incoming missiles.
In addition to securing current stockpiles, Western partners have confirmed that Ukraine will receive licenses to manufacture air defense missiles domestically.
