The Russian Federation continues to wage a devastating campaign of aerial terror against Ukraine’s civilian population, utilizing highly destructive stand-off weapons. In the latest incident, Russian tactical aviation carried out an airstrike on the residential areas of Slovyansk in the Donetsk region. According to the official report by the Donetsk Oblast Prosecutor’s Office, Russian forces dropped three FAB-250 unguided bombs modified with guidance kits on the city. The attack left at least six civilians wounded, including a 9-year-old boy. The victims sustained severe mine-blast injuries and multiple lacerations, with one elderly woman reportedly in critical condition.
The kinetic impact of the three aerial bombs caused extensive damage to civilian infrastructure. Shockwaves and shrapnel damaged at least 24 multi-story residential buildings and numerous private vehicles. The use of FAB-250 bombs equipped with UMPK (Unified Gliding and Correction Modules) presents a critical challenge for Ukraine’s air defense forces. These glide kits enable Russian warplanes to release heavy ordnance from distances of 50 to 70 kilometers, remaining well outside the operational range of Ukraine’s short- and medium-range air defense systems.
The escalation of bombing campaigns against frontline and near-rear cities like Slovyansk and Kramatorsk is closely tied to the intensifying battlefield dynamics in Eastern Ukraine.
