A Russian agent couple, who systematically assisted the aggressor in correcting missile strikes against Odesa, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with full property confiscation. As reported by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the criminal activity of these individuals was halted back in late 2022, but the legal process took time to finalize the collection of critical evidence.
Investigations revealed that the duo was recruited by Russian military intelligence (GRU) long before the full-scale invasion. The husband, a Russian citizen with combat experience in Chechnya who had been living in Odesa for years, spearheaded the recruitment of his wife, a native of Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region. Together, they formed a dangerous cell focused on undermining Ukraine’s defensive capabilities.
The couple’s primary targets were Ukrainian air defense positions and key logistics centers serving the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They utilized various tactics to gather intelligence, including attempting to bribe military personnel and using casual social interactions to extract sensitive information. Once collected, these coordinates were marked on Google Maps and transmitted to their handlers within the GRU.
