Russian forces have escalated their campaign of terror against the civilian population in southern Ukraine, turning residential areas of the Kherson region into a zone of relentless devastation. Over the past 24 hours, heavy Russian shelling, drone strikes, and aerial bombardments have claimed the lives of six civilians and left another 27 injured. This tragic update was confirmed by Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, on his official Telegram channel on Saturday.
The scale of the attack reflects a systematic attempt by the Russian military to make life uninhabitable in the liberated territories. More than fifty settlements across the region came under enemy fire, including Antonivka, Beryslav, Chornobaivka, Stanislav, Bilozerka, and the regional capital, Kherson. The Russian army deployed a wide array of weaponry, combining heavy artillery and guided aerial bombs with a sophisticated network of attack drones, which now pose a constant danger to local residents moving between towns.
In addition to the devastating human toll, the strikes caused widespread destruction to critical and social infrastructure. Local authorities reported damage to six multi-story residential buildings and nine private houses. Furthermore, the attacks heavily damaged administrative buildings, commercial shops, local restaurants, a gas station, a cell tower, and agricultural facilities belonging to a local farm. Such damage to agrarian infrastructure severely threatens the economic survival of the region, which has already been deeply affected by years of active hostilities.
The rise of target-specific drone warfare has become a prominent tactic of the Russian forces along the Dnipro River. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are no longer used merely for reconnaissance; they actively hunt civilian vehicles, public transport, and humanitarian convoys. This direct threat to life has forced local authorities to continue intensive evacuation efforts, with eight more residents rescued from the most vulnerable frontline communities over the last day.
The ongoing tragedy in the Kherson region emphasizes the urgent need for Ukraine’s Western allies to provide advanced air defense systems and electronic warfare capabilities. Without robust protection against drones and heavy artillery, the civilian population along the Dnipro River remains exposed to daily war crimes, underscoring the critical importance of sustained international support and global accountability for the perpetrators.
