The integration of artificial intelligence and robotics on the battlefield has taken a major leap forward as the American startup Foundation Future Industries begins testing dual-use humanoid robots in Ukraine. According to a report by CNBC, these state-of-the-art machines are being deployed in active conflict zones to assist with hazardous logistics, paving the way for a new era of automated warfare.
The San Francisco-based company, which maintains close ties to the Trump family, has already dispatched two early-stage ‘Phantom MK-1’ prototypes to Ukraine. These initial models serve as a pilot demonstration, helping the military transport payloads of up to 20 kilograms in high-risk zones. While the MK-1 faces limitations, including lack of water resistance and limited autonomous operational time, the feedback from real combat environments is invaluable. Foundation Future Industries plans to deploy the upgraded ‘Phantom 2’ later this year, boasting double the payload capacity and significantly improved durability for harsh terrain.
The geopolitical and financial backing of the startup underscores the strategic importance of this venture. Eric Trump, son of the US President, serves as an advisor and was an early investor in the company. Furthermore, the startup has secured research contracts from the US government totaling $24 million. These contracts are aimed at exploring how humanoid robots can be utilized for military logistics, routine inspections, and eventually, weapons handling.
Looking ahead, Foundation Future Industries has set highly ambitious production targets, aiming to manufacture up to 50,000 units by the end of 2027. Over the next 12 to 18 months, the company plans to expand its collaboration with the US military, testing the platforms in domestic training scenarios. The deployment of these humanoid systems in Ukraine represents a critical milestone, proving that the future of military defense will heavily rely on autonomous, dual-use robotic assistance to safeguard human lives.
