Russian occupation forces have launched a secondary drone attack on the city of Zaporizhzhia, intensifying their systematic aerial terror against Ukrainian urban areas. According to the official statement of the Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov, published on his Telegram channel, the targeted drone strike claimed the lives of two civilians and left several others wounded, including a 14-year-old girl. This hostile act once again underscores the relentless danger faced by front-line cities under the constant threat of Russian UAVs and heavy artillery.
The strike specifically targeted a local industrial facility, causing a large-scale fire that required the immediate deployment of emergency units. While the initial wave of morning strikes had already damaged industrial sites, the subsequent afternoon drone attack proved fatal. A male worker died on the spot, and another man, who had been critically injured during the first attack, later passed away in the hospital. Additionally, a teenage girl sought medical emergency support due to blast wave injuries and is currently undergoing comprehensive medical examination.
The physical destruction extends far beyond the industrial zone into residential areas. The heavy blast waves and flying shrapnel damaged nine multi-story residential buildings, with one of them sustaining severe structural damage, leaving many families displaced. Municipal workers, emergency responders, and international humanitarian volunteers arrived at the site immediately to board up shattered windows and balconies with OSB wooden sheets, ensuring temporary protection for the remaining residents.
This “double-tap” tactic is widely criticized as a deliberate attempt to maximize casualties, often targeting the emergency services and civilian volunteers arriving to help after the first blast. Coupled with simultaneous drone strikes targeting logistics and critical infrastructure in Sumy Oblast, the attack on Zaporizhzhia represents a coordinated campaign aimed at weakening Ukraine’s industrial heartlands. To protect innocent lives and economic capacity, Ukraine’s allies must urgently supply advanced air defense systems to secure the skies over these vulnerable regions.
