New Night Attack on Kyiv: Air Force Warns of Hypersonic Missile Threat

Робота протиповітряної оборони під час нічної атаки на Київ

In the early hours of May 24, Russian forces launched another aerial assault on the Ukrainian capital. The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine issued an alert regarding the potential threat of a medium-range ballistic missile, specifically the “Oreshnik,” alongside other high-speed targets directed at Kyiv.

The air raid alert was activated shortly after midnight. At 00:51, the military officially warned about the risk of a hypersonic ballistic missile strike. The situation escalated quickly as the city faced a combined attack involving drones and high-speed missiles. Residents reported hearing at least six loud explosions across the capital, which were the results of air defense systems engaging hostile targets. Further waves of explosions were recorded between 00:14 and 00:19 as additional incoming threats were intercepted.

This latest attack is consistent with Moscow’s broader strategy to terrorize Ukrainian urban centers and put psychological pressure on the civilian population. Ukrainian leadership, including President Volodymyr Zelensky, has previously warned that the Kremlin is preparing further complex, combined strikes intended to exhaust air defense resources. The constant threat posed by such weapons remains a critical concern for both civil and military defense planning.

The escalation of hostilities is not limited to the capital. The intensity of combat across the frontline, particularly in the Pokrovsk direction, remains at a critical high, with hundreds of skirmishes reported daily. Despite the constant barrage of missile attacks and drone strikes, Ukrainian defense forces continue to demonstrate high efficiency in protecting the sky and neutralizing threats before they reach their intended targets.

Western intelligence and international embassies have repeatedly cautioned about the potential for massive air strikes, urging civilians to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols. The persistence of these attacks serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat and the strategic importance of international aid in strengthening Ukraine’s aerial defense capabilities.
