The number of casualties following a massive overnight Russian strike on Dnipro has risen to 28, according to an official report by Dnipropetrovsk Regional Governor Oleksandr Ganzha on May 18. This latest assault marks another violent chapter in the Russian military’s ongoing campaign against Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, utilizing a combination of missile strikes, artillery, and drone attacks.
Governor Ganzha confirmed that five additional individuals sought medical assistance following the initial impact. While most patients are receiving outpatient care, eight people remain hospitalized. The regional authorities noted that the Russian forces conducted 40 separate attacks across four districts in the Dnipropetrovsk region throughout the night. The Nikopol district bore the brunt of the onslaught, with residential buildings, a gas station, and private vehicles sustaining significant damage in Nikopol, Marhanetska, Myrivska, Pokrovska, and Chervonohryhorivska communities. A 51-year-old man was injured and is currently in stable-to-moderate condition in the hospital.
Beyond the Nikopol district, the destruction extended to the Samara district, where infrastructure in the Pereshchepyne community was hit, and the Synelnykove district, where a vacant building was targeted in the Pokrovska community. Additionally, residential homes in the Zelenodolsk community of the Kryvyi Rih district were damaged by the strikes.
This wave of attacks highlights the persistent danger posed by Russian occupation forces, who continue to deliberately target non-military sites in an effort to destabilize Ukrainian society.
