Ukraine has achieved a major milestone in its defense capabilities by completing the development of its first indigenous guided aerial bomb (KAB). Developed under the Brave1 defense technology cluster over a period of 17 months, the weapon has successfully passed all necessary testing phases and is now prepared for combat deployment.
The Ukrainian-made guided bomb is equipped with a 250 kg warhead and features a proprietary design. According to Minister Fedorov, it is not a derivative of Soviet or Western systems, but a unique engineering solution tailored specifically for the realities of the current conflict. It is designed to strike enemy fortifications, command centers, and deep-rear logistics nodes with high precision at ranges of several dozen kilometers.
‘The Ministry of Defense has already procured the first experimental batch,’ Fedorov confirmed. Currently, Ukrainian Air Force pilots are engaged in integrating the new munitions into operational combat scenarios. The adoption of this technology marks a pivotal moment in the air war, providing Ukraine with a robust, locally sourced tool to contest airspace and neutralize tactical threats. By scaling these indigenous solutions, Ukraine is not only decreasing its dependence on external supply chains but is also fundamentally altering the tactical landscape of the battlefield.
This development comes as Ukraine continues to face relentless aerial pressure from Russian forces. The introduction of home-grown precision-guided munitions provides a necessary counterbalance to the enemy’s reliance on their own massive stockpiles of glide bombs.
