On Sunday, April 17, the Russian occupation forces launched a brutal series of attacks across four districts of the Dnipropetrovsk region, utilizing both drones and heavy artillery, as reported by the Head of the Regional Military Administration (source: https://t.me/dnipropetrovskaODA/29479). These deliberate strikes on civilian areas resulted in tragic casualties and widespread infrastructure damage.
The Nikopol district suffered the most severe impact. Attacks targeted Nikopol, as well as the Pokrovska, Myrivska, Marhanetska, and Chervonohryhorivska communities. Multiple residential buildings, including an apartment complex and private homes, were damaged or destroyed. Tragically, two people were killed, and four others were wounded. Among the injured is a 78-year-old man currently in critical condition, and a 42-year-old man in moderate condition. Infrastructure facilities in the area were also heavily impacted by the strikes.
The terror extended to other parts of the region as well. In the Synelnykove district, the Vasylkivska and Mezhivska communities were shelled, leading to damage to private property and vehicles, with one 41-year-old man sustaining injuries. The Kamianske district faced attacks in the Krynychanska community, while in the Kryvyi Rih district, the city of Kryvyi Rih and the Zelenodolska community were hit, causing significant damage to local infrastructure.
These attacks serve as a grim reminder of the Russian strategy to target civilian life while failing to achieve significant tactical successes on the front lines. The deliberate targeting of peaceful communities is a hallmark of the ongoing war, aimed at breaking the morale of the Ukrainian people. Despite the constant threat, local authorities and emergency services are working tirelessly to provide aid to the victims and repair essential services.
As the war continues, the bravery of those holding the front remains the backbone of Ukraine’s defense. However, the tragic events of this Sunday highlight the vulnerability of civilian populations living under the constant shadow of Russian aggression. The international community must remain focused on the atrocities committed by occupying forces, ensuring that every life lost is accounted for in the pursuit of justice and accountability for these war crimes.
